Basic Blog Marketing for Everyone

By Gregory White

Blog marketing is so simple and so easy that anybody and everybody could and should be doing it. Do you use a blog to market your business? All you need is a blog, which is super easy to set up.

Blog marketing is an ambiguous phrase, and can be thought of at least two ways:
1. Blog marketing – Marketing a blog
2. Blog marketing – Marketing WITH a blog.
On the one hand the what is being marketed is your blog. On the other hand, you’re using a blog to market some other product or service.

If you have never blogged before, don’t be scared off by the idea of Blog marketing. Keeping a blog is extremely easy and you’ll have so much fun that it won’t even seem like work.

Word Press, one of the most popular blogging platforms for internet marketers and is simple to set up and use. In fact, many web hosts offer it in their backend products through scripts like Fantastico. You can set up categories, and make it easier to file your posts for readers to find.

In the case of #2 above, you’re going to use a blog to market a product or service. Once you get a blog up and running, you might be wondering what in the world to write about. What is your niche? Who is your target market? Keeping these things in mind, write a list of all the problems or questions they might have, in relation to what you are selling.

From this list, create another list of blog topics. (You can also use this list to set up your blog categories.) This will be your master list that you will go to when you write your blog post each day.

The main purpose of using a blog to market your business is to build a relationship with your readers. You want to create an open discussion, as well as help them get to know you.

Give your blog readers tidbits of information that they will find useful. Write interesting blog posts about business-related stuff. Give them a bird’s eye view of your business and what it’s all about. Write about topics that are interesting to your readers, too.

Read up on all the blog marketing tactics, blog marketing strategies and articles on blog marketing that you can find.

Finally, remember to update your blog regularly. In fact, it’s a good idea to create a blog schedule for yourself. You should never start a blog, and then drop off the face of the earth. It’s difficult to build a trustworthy relationship this way.

For many blogs, a daily post is a really good way to quickly establish an online presence and build trust. For some business, however, a daily post isn’t possible. In this case, try blogging 3 days per week, or every other day. Some businesses even post once per week, on the same day of the week. This isn’t recommended, though, because your readers need to have a reason to keep coming back often.

Read other blogs by bloggers writing in your same area. Use their posts also as ‘grist for the mill’, by referencing their good posts in your blog when you run across them. Study blog marketing tactics and blog marketing strategies relentlessly. You’ll find it becomes fun and you’ll become very adept at it.

Blog marketing is super easy. If you don’t have a blog yet, go ahead and build one. Get started blogging and you’re sure to be pleasantly surprised at the results you begin seeing in a few short weeks.
