What Is The Most Effective Method of Online Advertising?
The internet is extremely competitive marketplace for online businesses. Almost every product imaginable is available, thus making exposure to potential customers extremely difficult to achieve. There are various advertising methods and techniques available, with some being more effective than others.
Traditional Banner Advertising
Banner advertising was one of the first advertising methods to ever be conceived during the early stages of the internet. Back when online users weren't as "net-savvy", it was extremely effective and the CTR (click-through-rate) was very respectable. Nowadays though, users will tend to ignore them as they are viewed as "spam" and offer nothing beneficial. This is where modern banner advertising techniques are utilized.
Modern Banner Advertising
While the same banner size and format is used, designers build in simple mini-games into their ads. Winning the relatively easy mini-game will result in a "reward", where the user is then redirected to the advertiser's website. It is an extremely effective method of advertising that has seen very high conversion rates.
Contextual Advertising
Contextual advertising was first introduced by Google with their program AdWords. While it is expensive (payment is based per click, where you pay every time a user clicks on your ad), it is the only method to ensure that you are receiving targeted visitors to your website. It remains as the highest converting method of advertising to date, but a substantial investment is required to see any results.
Pop-Up Advertising
While pop-up advertising is well and truly dead, new methods of pop-ups have been introduced. The "fly-in" pop-up is an animated window that flies in from the side of the user's screen, overlaying the current website being displayed. The animation and obtrusive ad ensures that the user's attention is held, resulting in a high conversion rate.
