Removing Wax from Carpet by Jon Williams

For all of you that have tried to remove candle wax from carpet and were unsuccessful. The truth is you can get remove candle wax from the carpet pile. It's not always an easy thing to do, but the wax can be removed with a little patience, a warm iron and some paper towels. The dyes from the wax are a different story though. Removing the dye from the wax depends on a couple of things first the carpet fiber and second the dye structure it self. First, start by scraping as much of the wax out of the carpet fiber as you can, a spoon works great. Second, put a couple of ice cubes on the wax to freeze it, leaving them there for a minute or two. This will help harden the wax just enough to break it up and get more of it out.You want to get as much of the wax out of the fibers before moving on too the next step. The third step is to cover the wax spot with a paper towel or a clean brown bag, and then place an iron on the wax spot, set the iron on Low. This will help liquefy the wax and will let it transfer to the paper towel or paper bag. Use a new paper towel or brown paper bag as often as necessary until you get all of the wax out. This may take several minutes and or several paper towels to get all the wax out. If the first steps don't remove all traces of the wax in the carpet fiber, then try rubbing alcohol. Always be sure to use the clear alcohol and not a colored one. In some cases the rubbing alcohol may also help in the removal of the stain left from the dyes in the wax itself. Take a white cloth wet it with the alcohol, and the dab the area. Continue doing this with a fresh towel until you get no more transfer of the wax and or the dyes to the towel. The final thing to do when all the wax is fully removed, is to rinse the area with clean clear water. Then blot up as much of the water as you can, and finaly dry the area as quickly as you can. Using a fan can help with this process. A quick drying time prevents any of the dye stains deeper down in the fiber of the carpet that you may have not gotten from wicking up to the surface of the carpet.
