Network Marketing - What Does Preparing to Go Mountain Climbing Have to Do With Starting a Business?
By Marcus A. Baker
I recently went on a four day mountain climb with a friend. With the exception of a bit of bush hiking I had never tackled a serious climb like this before. Thinking back to the experience I realized that preparing for the climb was a lot like having a network marketing business. Here's what I learned:
One day I mentioned to a mate that I wanted to do a particular climb. What I didn't know is that he had not only done this same climb before but also had a lot of expertise and experience in the area generally. Best of all, not only did he want to do it again but he was also very willing to help me so we could do it together.
This is no different to starting your own home based business. Even though you may not have done it before, all you need to do is find someone who has been successful and learn from them.
I had no idea of the level of preparation required. If it had been up to me I would have started a day or two before leaving. I learned that to be successful you must set aside sufficient time in advance and be as thorough as possible. Our preparation started six weeks before the big day. It consisted of everything from fitness training to plotting the route, compass training, weather planning, buying provisions, wearing in shoes and lots of talking about what it would be like.
A network marketing business requires a lot of planning and preparation too. You must research the company, know what your goals are, put together a business plan, organize where and how you will operate your business, study what you don't know and buy the products and services you will need.
As much as I imagined what it would be like and although it was fun discussing all the possible scenarios we were likely to encounter, there came a time when my friend said that we had done as much as we could to be prepared. It was time to set the date and leave. Whatever we hadn't prepared ourselves for we would deal with if and when it arose.
This is true of having a business too. There is only so much you can do to prepare and then you just have to do it. Don't wait till you are sure everything is perfect or you will never start. As long as you have put some kind of plan into place you can deal with whatever else you need to learn and do along the way.
Marcus Baker was hopeless at network marketing for many years. He never gave up. Eventually he realized what he was missing. Now he is committed to sharing what he has learned with wannabe online marketing entrepreneurs, helping them find their power and become more successful than they ever imagined they could be.
