In this article we are going to look at what dehydration is, what can cause it, and some of the many symptoms of dehydration. When water is taken away from anything we consider it to be dehydrated. Think of dried fruit, all the moisture or water is taken out. This is the same for the body, when it does not have the proper amount of water, it simply will not work right.

Dehydration can be a very serious condition and if not treated can cause death. Now I'm sure we have all been at least slightly dehydrated at times or maybe drank too much alcohol. While this was not life threatening it is still a bad thing for your body.

Now here are some of the causes of dehydration:



hot dry weather

working in the sun without enough water

diarrhea

cooked food

caffeinated products

stress

trauma

alcohol

puking

severe hyperglycemia

many diseases



So you see a lot of things we do in our everyday lives can cause the effects of dehydration. The best thing we can do is to start drinking lots of water on a regular basis and make it a priority. Many times when we feel hungry it is actually that we are thirsty and cannot tell the difference. So drinking more water can actually have an effect on our waistlines as well. That's a great bonus!

So Now lets talk a bit about the symptoms of dehydration.

Some of them can include:



this is obvious you become thirsty

headaches

lose your appetite

your mouth becomes dry

your urine gets dark

becoming disoriented or dizzy

if your blood pressure is low

if you feel weak or tired

These are some of the primary symptoms but there can be others as everyone is very different. Be sure to drink plenty of water if you experience any of these. You may want to also want put a bit of salt in your water to help replace the electrolytes. These are very important. If you have more severe dehydration symptoms it may wise to seek medical help.
