Anxiety and the Physical Symptoms it Causes
By Deanna Diaz
Anxiety can cause many different physical symptoms.
Almost everyone, (if not everyone) feels stress and anxiety at one time or another. Each person also has a different tolerance level. Just like some people get cold very easily and others barely notice temperature.
If you take 'normal' anxiety, like giving a presentation to a group of 100 total strangers, most people will feel stomach flops, sweaty palms and rapid heart beat. Most people accept that the two are related, especially when the symptoms disappear after the presentation!
When a person feels anxiety in the tolerable zone, they never bother to mention or complain of the stomach flops, etc, but that doesn't mean that their body isn't responding. However, at times the brain can intensify the reaction even though the cause is at a normal level.
To illustrate this point, take the above example of giving a presentation to a group of 100. In some cases, the reaction to the anxiety is so extreme that it could cause a phobia, and the person absolutely cannot give the presentation. In other cases a person may faint, get an asthma attack, or even throw up.
While the above is talking about so called 'normal anxiety' other times we are dealing with something much more serious. Anxiety can become so extreme that it gets diagnosed by a doctor and called GAD. At this level, its not usually caused by circumstances, its just something that your brain has learned how to do really well. Because the anxiety is so high, it just makes sense that physical symptoms that are perhaps bizarre and unexpected can come up. Symptoms like asthma, dizzy spells, numbness in the arms and legs, canker sores, arthritis, stomach disorders and many others have been linked to anxiety.
Since every person is unique and is made up of different backgrounds, beliefs, memories etc, it just makes sense that how anxiety makes you feel is also unique in each person. So if you are feeling weird, and the doctor can't explain the cause of your [http://wordmedicine.com/anxiety-physical-symptoms/]physical symptoms, you may want to start thinking about your anxiety levels. There is a good chance that this could be the culprit. This is actually good news because anxiety is an emotion, and emotions can be altered, changed and improved.
