Article by Jayme Wium

These days, the collecting of militaria is an established hobby among many groups of people. Many families, especially those royal families with long martial tradition, have large collections of militaria passed down from generation to generation. They may have started their collection from only medals and badges and reached a stage of abundant, finer, detailed collectables as it was passed on to each generation!People today, also collect militaria for investment purposes and keep the treasures within the family inheritance. There is no doubt that the value is of extremely rare antiquities. Antiquities that never go down or deteriates, on condition that the maintainence and keeping, is up to standards! Not everything is rare and expensive in the militaria collection. There are some very good quality items like medals, badges, stable belts etc. that can be purchased at a reasonable price! For those that do not know what militaria really consists of, well, it is the artifacts or replicas of military, police, soldiers etc, that is collected for their historical significance. There is a range of items and such antiques include firearms, swords, knives, any other weapons, uniforms, helmets, medals, badges, military headgear, armours, insignia, photographs, antiquarian books, magazines and posters; scale models and toy soldiers; and the list of items can go on!Although, there is such a wide range of militaria, every item, even they are just a collection of badges, there is a unique significance behind each one. The discipline of military history is dynamic, changing with development as much of the subject area, to societies. Similar to military kits, but not same quality, January 6, 2011

Having served in the infantry for a tour, I can say that these kits are similar to the simple field kits we used to use. That said, they’re not of the same quality. If you have nothing else, they can basically get your M16 clean, but not the best option for sure.

Understand that this product is NOT genuine military issue. It is a cheap Chinese copy of the milspec AR15/M16 cleaning kit. With that comes the usual cheap Chinese threads, that have a tendancy to cross thread. And the oil bottle will leak. The cleaning rod is painted steel, unlike the phosphate oxide finish on the original kits. However, the steel is better than using a brass rod. The attatchments (bore brush, and chamber brush) will work well. I have mixed reaction to the claeaning patches supplied but they are better than nothing. The vinyl pouch that contains the parts, is aslo a cheap copy, and does not include the metal belt clip. You would be more satisfied buying an original US military cleaning kit.

For under 20 bucks I guess this an alright set. Cheap bag with chinchy tools inside. If I had to do it over, I’d just buy all the equiptment seperatly and put it in a better dedicated bag. Convenient to have but if you put in some effort you can build a better set.
