The consumer electronics industry has been growing at an extremely brisk rate. Demand for consumer electronic goods had always been there, but it has reached its zenith in the past few years. This has consequently resulted in the growth of the consumer electronics industry, which is becoming one of the most profitable sectors in world economy. In the last few years, there has been dynamic technological progress. The consumer electronics industry has been employing advanced technologies to manufacture electronic goods and is reaping huge profits as a result. People today live very busy lives to keep up with the speed of the world. A hectic lifestyle calls for some type of entertainment. It is important to refresh the mind and ease out stress and anxiety since bottled up tension can be hazardous to health. New goods have been invented which provide people with different types of entertainment. Apart from entertainment, there are other electronic goods that have become a necessity in our daily life. People are increasingly becoming dependent on electronic goods in their daily lives as it saves them a lot of time and effort. Consumer electronic goods have come to the forefront to make the job for a man easier and perfect. These machines have become a part of our everyday life and it is now hard to think of a life without them. The consumer electronics industry has truly responded to the needs of the time. World-class communication equipment like cell phones, fax machines and computers are also required in our daily lives, which is bringing the world closer with every passing day. There are various reasons for the growth of consumer electronics industry. The consumer electronics industry provides us with a large array of goods for daily use. These are used in various sectors of life including office, communications and entertainment. The demand for some of the most popular electronics equipment in our daily life has added to the growth of the consumer electronics industry. Popular consumer electronic goods include indispensable equipments like televisions, personal computers, radio, mobiles, microwaves, stereos, refrigerators, washing machines and other goods. The demand for consumer electronic goods has attracted huge amount of investments for this industry. These investments have in turn resulted in the growth of this industry. The history of consumer electronics throughout the world has not followed a straight path. Different countries have climbed the ladder of success in this field of electronics faster than the others in different periods. At times, it has been the United States of America while at other times Asian countries like Japan and China had become the biggest producers of consumer electronic goods. However, there were a few other countries as well like Ireland and others who had stunned the world with their achievements in the field of electronics. US consumer electronics faced tough competition from the Chinese and Japanese producers in the 1960s. As a result, the consumer electronics industry of USA declined but by 1980s the industry again gained its previous position. US consumer electronics industry is the world’s premier consumer electronics industry. The origin of the consumer electronics industry can be traced back to the early part of the 20th century. According to the history of the consumer electronics industry, the years 1904 and 1908 mark the beginning of the era of electronic equipments. John Ambrose Fleming invented the two-element electron tube. In 1906 Lee De Forest founded the three-element tube. These inventions contributed to the development of radio in the 1920s. In 1947, three scientists, Bardeen, Walter and Shockley invented the transistor, which marked the beginning of a new era in modern electronics and made communications across the globe much easier. Gradually, integrated circuits formed an integral part of the electronic devices. With the invention of analogue devices in the 1960s, demand for electronic goods largely increased. The analogue devices had the ability to store vast amount of information in a single silicon chip. Technological advancements also led to the advancement of space technology, computer industry, satellite communications and personal computers. Electronic consumer goods also found its place in military research and high-tech warfare. In the 1970s, consumer electronic goods made dynamic advances. Laser and optical electronics, microwave electronics and digital electronics were also introduced. Reasons for the growth of consumer electronics industry was seen in countries like US, Japan and Ireland. US faced tough competition from Ireland, China, South East Asian countries and Japan and as a consequence, the US consumer electronics industry gradually declined. The Japanese electronic products captured the world market with its new improved goods. The electronic goods ranged from VCRs, Colour Televisions, CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, wristwatches and so on. The US monopoly in the consumer electronics industry declined and countries like Japan, China, Ireland and South East Asian countries continued to dominate and boost the market with new goods for further convenience. Companies like Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba and Matsushita became a household name over the years. Increasing demand for electronic equipment in daily life is one of the reasons for the growth of consumer electronics industry. As a result of the growing demand for consumer electronic goods, their production cost has considerably decreased since the early days of consumer electronics. Consequently, users can now purchase all kinds of electronic goods at a very reasonable price. Initially, only the rich could afford to buy electronic goods but now consumer electronic goods are available for the masses. Nowadays, people want to purchase the latest consumer electronic goods and as a result the consumer electronics industry must continue to grow to keep up with the demands of the consumers. Latest electronic goods have become a status symbol for a person especially the youth. As a result there is always enough demand for new and improved consumer electronic goods.

The best I’ve ever seen,
This textbook is far and away the best I’ve ever seen on the subject. I wholeheartedly agree with the previous review, and would like to add a few comments of my own. This book, as a stand-alone text, is outstanding. If you combine this book, the lab project manual(sold separately-around $70), and invest around $50 in a Multisim software program(10.1 is the newest version right now), you’ve just given yourself the basis of an electronics education that will serve you well for the rest of your life. Multisim is basically a circuit prototyping and analysis software package. It has a 3-d breadboard where you can hook up circuits(with around 16,000 different components to choose from) and see how/if they work, analyze and troubleshoot them, etc. Pretty much anything you could do on a breadboard, you can do on Multisim. This book comes with a disk that gives you ready made circuits to open with Multisim to experiment on, and it walks you through doing so. It’s unbelievable. The lab manual gives you a ton of actual circuit building experiments to do on an real breadboard…again walking you through. The book itself starts assuming no previous knowledge of electronics, and takes you up through transistors, oscillators, op amps, etc. It has a plethora of examples that are worked out step by step, with practice problems coming every couple of pages, and then chapter review problem at the end of every chapter…all with the answers at the back of the book so that you can check your progress. I’ve never taken the time to review ANYTHING my whole life, but this book has been such a blessing for me, I just had to. I’m teaching myself electronics, in preparation of starting an Electronics Engineering program at Devry this spring. I just wish I would’ve bought this book earlier, instead of some others I bought. HIGHLY recommended!

The Foundations of Electronics: Circuits & Devices Conventional Flow is an outstanding reference for the beginner as well as the engineer. The content is outstanding and the physical binding of the book is sturdy. Content is extensive. It covers theory, circuits, electronics equipment and their use — including test equipment. This is a must for anyone who wants to seriously pursue electronics. (based upon my 50+ years of electronics experience)
