Question by Lisa Rowe (NOT Lisa Cody): Why is it in the “old days of renting VHS” tapes from a video store?
Why is it in the “old days of renting VHS” tapes from a video store?
they would sometimes charge a rewind fee? Was it that hard? Of course I usually rewound them before returning them but I am just curious why they would charge you for not rewinding when you paid to rent the movie? I even remember so many slogans like “Be kind rewind”.

Review by Family Man for Holiday Affair [VHS]
Rating:
Story of a young single mom and her son. She’s having a hard time getting over the death of her husband and has been dating a young attorney. She meets another young man who sells her a toy train for use in her job but her son thinks it’s for him for Christmas.
The funniest scene occurs when the man who sold her the toy train is accused and arrested for something he did not do. The single mom is asked to come to the police station to clear up the story. Her attorney boyfriend goes with her to help out. The detective asking questions has great dry humor.
It all works out in the end. A fun story.

This is by far one of my most favorite movies. I could watch it year round. It’s a good clean movie, so it’s one the whole family can watch. I only wish they would put this version out on DVD.

Cute movie, one worth watching at least every Christmas. It shows a lot about character and caring for others. I wish it was on DVD instead of VHS.

This a remake of an earlier movie and I love both of them. Christmas is my time of the year
It took time and paid staff to rewind lazy customers tapes
cuz it made more money for them. one person’s laziness is a couple more bucks for them.
Think about it – they base their business off of giving people movies, and it better be completely ready to watch when they get home. To make sure of that, they hire people to rewind it. Customer satisfaction is key, even if it means charging a slight fee.
I don’t know of anyone who was actually charged…
When you returned them… they wouldn’t check them.
Because it does put wear on their equipment. If they had to rewind every movie that came back to them, they would probably go through one vcr a week.
It was just to get people to rewind the tapes before returning them. People follow the rules if there are consequences like fees.
It takes up time when employees can be doing something else. Also when a customer rents a movie they don’t want to have to rewind before they start to watch the movie. It’s wear and tear on their equipment and nerves.
They had to start charging a “rewind fee” because so many people would return the tapes without rewinding, that they had to hire people purely to rewind the tapes. The fee went to pay these people.
Well I was never charged a rewind fee, but I always did anyway. It was supposedly meant as a way of being courteous to other renters. I always found it annoying to have to rewind the tape before I could watch the movie.
Because video stores suck & they’re greedy.
