This is such a great camera as far as features, battery life, touch screen, size. It has 2 SD slots and takes regular AA batteries. It can record in 1080 mode for hours without filling a 16gb card, Incredibly versatile! It is really everything I wanted however it completely fails due to the lens. It has the kind of lens typically found on pinhole type cameras. I cannot recommend it because of this. The quality of videos produced is ok if you just want to capture a moment but when you purchase a full 1080p camcorder you probably are expecting more than the end result this guy puts out. I give it 5 stars for the size and digital features and 1 star for lens/sensor, so giving it 3 out of 5. It simply will not produce good HD videos, particularly where lots of motion is involved

|No Optical Zoom = No Deal,
I almost pulled the trigger on this item (HP V5061u 1080p Digital Camcorder with 3-Inch Touchscreen LCD) during a Gold Box deal. However after doing some research elsewhere, I realized that this camcorder has no optical zoom capability at all. All it has is a tiny fixed focus lens, with 4x DIGITAL zoom (2x in 1080p mode). This is completely unacceptable because that means, when using the zoom feature, you only get HALF the advertised 1080p resolution. Amazon’s product description suspiciously did not mention anything about “digital zoom”.
This is such a pity, because I really liked the other features of this camcorder. Especially the option to use either alkaline or rechargeable NiMH AA cells as power source. But as it stands right now, this is just not a good deal.
Spend a little more and get another model with real zoom capability instead. For example, consider the Sanyo VPC-GH4. It is priced similar to this HP model, but offers 5x optical zoom.
