Question by tonepoems: If I’m writing “how to” book about software, do I need that software’s permission?
I am planning to write a step-by-step tutorial about software that is specific to automotives. If I intend to sell that tutorial, does that software company need to be aware of it? Is it enough to place a disclaimer that they are not endorsing or affiliated with my tutorial? Thanks in advance!

If you place a name that is registered to them yes. Its called a copyright. You will also need to speak to a lawyer to proof it. Most credits are given easily because its free publicity.

I think you might want to get permission as they own the product you will be discussing.
Yes you need the software company’s permission when writing a book because of copy rights you need to know if you can use their name in your book.
You do not need their permission, but you need to note that the software and names are copyrighted and/or trademarked by the company and that they have no affiliation with the book. Simply using the name of the software to write a how to book is well within the bounds of fair use. There are many such books for many different computer programs and they do not pay or receive the company’s permission to publish them.
