I bought this enclosure along with a 500GB hard drive to upgrade my MacBook Pro (Unibody, late 2008). The enclosure comes with everything you need to install a hard drive into the enclosure, including a small magnetic screwdriver.
The enclosure is advertised as being aluminum. The black covers are aluminum but the sliver part you see is cheap plastic. I can easily foresee the “handle” breaking off in the near future.
The screws to secure the back plate onto the enclosure, screw into the plastic frame. The holes are not threaded. At first I could not get the screws to seat perpendicular to the enclosure. A quick look with a flashlight into the predrilled holes confirmed that the holes were not threaded. When installing, push hard and the screws will go in.
After installing, the drive was immediately recognized. The drive is faster than my other externals but I believe this is due to the fact that this is a SATA drive as opposed to the IDE drives I have laying around the house.
$15.99 is likely a fair price for this drive but don’t expect a bargain. The pictures make this enclosure appear to be of much higher quality than it really is.
I recommend this drive if you are looking for a cheap SATA enclosure that will enable you to do a HD upgrade, and place your old drive in this enclosure. If you are looking for something robust that will handle being carried around in a bag or plan on opening the enclosure often, I recommend you look elsewhere and spend a little more money.

It’s nothing fancy, but it works great! I recently installed a new 250gb hard drive in my Playstation 3, and i took the old hard drive out to use as an external drive with this enclosure. Installation was a breeze, and it works great! I did have to do some leg work to get the hard drive to work (sony puts all their playstation equipment on lock down, so i had to tweak with things to “recognize” the hard drive when i plugged in the usb cable to a computer).
Just make sure that you use the cable provided with the enclosure because any other cable that i used did not supply the enclosure with enough power to run the drive.
