Question by julyraine: lender asking for an underwriting fee before even getting a pre-approval?
I am working with an “affiliate” of Wells Fargo and gave him a ton of information so far, and now he is asking for a $ 400.00 underwriting fee that he says is imposed by wells fargo. We haven’t even gotten a pre-approval yet! He says we can get back all of it but $ 40 (for credit reports) if we DONT get approved. However Wells Fargo website says that pre-approval is free on a home loan. Any advice?
He was recommended by my realtor..he probably gets a kick back to I am pretty sure.
here is his website: https://www.homeloans.com/loans/michael-hendrickson/apply/preapproval/index.page

There are thousands of eager lenders out there ready to scam… I mean give you a loan. You should not have to provide them with a darn thing. Move on. You are swimming with sharks.
