It doesn’t. Magnets sure are good for imaging (MRI).
You know the funniest thing about those magnets that people strap to themselves? The magnets are lined up just like refrigerator magnets. The fields are strong at the surface and then dissipate rapidly. The magnetic field is essentially canceled out after about .3 cm. This means that the field doesn’t even penetrate the strap you hold it up to your skin with. There is absolutely no evidence that magnets have any therapeutic value. There is plenty of evidence that they don’t do squat.

With no cartilage between my last three vertebrae, the grinding bone on bone can be excruciating. With the magnetic belt the condition becomes painless–or at least much reduced, and life becomes livable and playable. The irony is that when I play tennis–which is three times a week, I forget about the pain, and seldom feel it.

My 79 year old mom swears by this product. She called me around 6am one morning to say she’s able to get up and sit down without the usual back/knee pain. She’s a chronic arthritis patient.
