If you use paper with acid in it.
It will yellow over the years.
Acid free paper doesn’t yellow very much.
This truly depends upon what you intend to do with your scrapbook. If you are making something along the lines of a family tree, or something that you will share with future generations, then you will need to use acid free paper. If it’s just something you’re doing for fun, then it doesn’t matter at all.
Some people do beautiful scrapbooks that truly qualify as works of art, and they should be using acid-free paper so their lovely creations will last.
If you use acid-free paper it is stronger and lasts longer then acid treated paper. Especially if you write or paint something on it, it will react with the pigments over time and everything will fade or colors will change. So if you want your work to last use acid-free paper. (I’m an artist and use acid-free canvas.. this way my works will last at least 100 years without fading).
I have always been told if you don’t use acid free paper then your photos will start to yellow. I have a bunch of old photos that were stored in those albums with the adhesive pages and they have all turned a shade of yellow or faded out.
Its so easy to find now and cheap, there is no reason you shouldn’t use it.
