Question by XenonAudio: Who else wants Y!A to add “High-End Audio” to Consumer Electronics?
I would like to see this category added because there is so

much interest in high-end audio gear that Home Theater really

doesn’t cover. And “general” Consumer Electronics category

is far too basic. I say if all of us contact the people at Yahoo!

Answers to add “High-End Audio” to the Consumer Elec-

tronics main category, maybe they will for all of us that are

interested in this specific topic. Who’s with me on this?

  1. Would love it….Tell me how!!!!!

  2. I would love one as well. Might help others, if they dont know about AVS forums..

  3. A High-End Audio would be nice, but I don’t think Yahoo would get a good following.

Maybe if all us Audiophiles start talking about High-End Audio here at the “Home Theater section,” Yahoo will get the hint.

Here are a few sites I’ve been going to for years. Hope you enjoy!!

  4. Good question (although. isn’t this a better discussed in the Y!A forum?)

I agree the current categories on Y!A are problematic, but I’m not sure “High-End Audio” is the answer. For example, what about video (i.e Should it be “High-End Audio and Video”?)Also, is the real issue the level of knowledge of most participants in Y!As or the taxonomy on the site?

Personally, I think the issue is more latter. For example why are “TVs” and “Home Theatre” split. Why “Tivos and DVRs”, since Tivo is a DVR? Why not a “connections and control” category? Where do design issues like soundproofing and speaker setup and acoustic tuning fit now? Why not put sub-categories under “Home Theatre” something like the uses used on AVS Forum? I could go on, but I think you get my drift.

Others have noted that AVS Forum is the better place for the high end discussion, and I tend to agree. Let’s face it AVS Forum does a good job now … why try to compete and risk diluting it?

  5. I would say no. You would be better served following the links given above.

If they would add a “high end audio” category, it would be flooded by morons who think that Bose and Sony are high end audio.

  6. i would love to have it since im into high end audio, but we will get the BOSE crew there alot claming they know evrything there is to know about audio and that our equipment is inferior to theres.

  7. Yes Y!A needs a high end audio, or at least 2 channel audio.

Home Theater can cover video, even high end of both HT audio and video.

As some have said there will be the Bose/Sony crowd but at least we could educate them (or hack on them, what ever)

No more quality audio mixed with HT……i say mutiny!!!!!!

  8. I was only thinking about that a few days ago . My first passion is audio .There are a lot of hi fi enthusiasts out there and there should be a section for us .I would include audio systems that start just bellow ‘high-end”to help those who would like to ask about and upgrade to high end stereo.

  9. Thanks the the links SwatProtection. I agree with you but I also agree with debaser8170. We would get all the Bose and Sony owners that has no clue what high end audio is all about and that would defeat the purpose of starting up a “High-End Audio” section at Yahoo.

    Just my 2¢
