Sea Kayaking – The Beauty and the Adventure

There is a quote about nature by the popular biologist Rachel Carson.

“The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the Universe, the less taste we shall have for destruction. Mother Nature has always surprised man by her abundance and beauty. The deep oceans and vast seas are very enigmatic and many adventurers have tried to explore it.”

There are many different water sports which the outdoor enthusiast enjoys. One of these sports is kayaking. Sea kayaking and ocean kayaking are some of the favorites among kayakers.

A kayak is a small boat, which is powered by a human. The kayaker uses paddles to maneuver the boat. The boat has a deck and a cockpit which the person sits in. the kayaker is covered by a deck called the spray deck. The traditional kayak was a one to three paddler boat with all the paddlers sitting facing forward with their legs below the deck of the boat, in one or more separate cockpits. Modern kayaks have evolved in numerous shape and sizes, and today they are broadly categorized according to their application for a particular body of water.

Kayaking is full of adventure. It is the exploration of nature and the enjoyment of being in its surroundings. Kayaking provides an escape from the hectic world we live in and lets you enjoy a natural paradise. Beginners to experts can easily paddle a sea kayak. Beginner can also seek the assistance of a guide. Some kayaks are suitable for use by the entire family and can be enjoyed as a popular family pastime. It is a full adventure of recreation and creativity, which allows you to be up close and personal with nature and its wildlife. There are also sea kayaking adventures which run for days, which are great enjoyment with a group of friends.

Sea kayaking is a form of kayaking that anyone will enjoy. As you become one with the water and move yourself from line to line, finding hidden corners and wonders, all while experiencing the power of the water. Beginning with a tour or guide is recommended if you would like an introduction to the waters and instruction on maneuvering your kayak through the water. Also, equally important is the awareness of the safety equipment.

Equipment that you may consider bringing are an extra paddle, helmets for rough waters, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or a rope and a signal device. Be sure to take all the necessary precautions and paddle safely!

The waters have welcomed many for years, and the glory of being in the middle of nature is something that is definitely experienced in kayaking. So, get going and enjoy the coastal and inland waters. Paddle smart and stay safe. Bon Voyage!
